Here at Community Access Television, we teach people how to produce television, we lend our equipment, facility, and our expertise, and we put their programs on Channel 2 on Time Warner Cable.

After attending an orientation, members have the opportunity to gain experience in many ways. We offer classes, workshops and seminars to enhance your production skills.

Members can also practice their skills at the summer festivals such as Celebrate Erie and Erie Art Museum Blues & Jazz festival. Community Access Television also hosts political forums and debates throughout the year.

Class Orientation (Free Informational Session)

Time 6:00 p.m. (All other classes begin at 5:00 p.m. and run from one to two hours depending on topic and class size.)
Description Find out the basics about Community Access Television, including how to join, what it costs, what you can produce, the basic rules, and most importantly, how to get started. This session is a prerequisite for all other classes.
Class Level I, a series of four sessions (Included in Membership)
Date January 10 – January 31, February 8 – February 22, March 7 – March 28, April 12 – May 3, May 9 – May 30,

Prerequisite Orientation
Time 5:00 p.m.
Session 1 Camera and Lighting — Functional elements of studio cameras, composition, director commands, lighting for video
Session 2 Audio and Video Mixing — Demonstrate and interact with studio audio equipment. Understand the video switcher and basic three-camera studio recording
Session 3 Producing, Video Routing, and Graphics — Focus on planning/producing a collaborative project for the final week. Also covered will be routing the video signal path for recording and post production, plus character generation and graphics.
Session 4 Final exam and Project — Take a written exam with the expectation of completing 75% correctly. Collaboratively produce a 10-15 minute program
Class SD Field Camera and Audio ($15 fee)

Description This class will discuss employing our field cameras to create programming or enhance studio projects. A thorough step-by-step instruction on the field camera features and functions to aid the beginner to novice producer. Basic camera techniques and helpful hints will be discussed.
Class Field Lighting ($15 fee)

Prerequisite Orientation, successful completion of Level I
Time 5:00 p.m.
Description Description: Lighting a scene for an interview can be a simple process with some extra knowledge. This session will provide useful information to get the best from the field cameras as well as enhance our subjects in the frame. A full instruction on our field lighting kits will shed new light on this subject.
Class Remote Truck ($15 fee)

Prerequisite Orientation, successful completion of Level I, Field Camera
Time 5:00 p.m.
Description This is a three-session class with the final segment’s goal to produce a completed program. We will follow a point to point instruction on setting up and using our three-camera remote truck. Camera setup, remote audio basics, monitoring recording of audio and video, and generating graphics will be covered.
Class HD Field Camera and Audio ($15 fee)

Prerequisite Prerequisite: Orientation, successful completion of Level I, & Field Camera
Time 5:00 p.m.
Description This class will discuss using our HD field cameras to create enhanced programming. A complete step-by-step instruction on the Panasonic AG-HMC150 and Panasonic HDC-S300 features and functions to aid the beginner to novice producer with HD filming.
Class HD Editing ($15 fee)

Prerequisite Prerequisite: Orientation, successful completion of Level I, Field Camera, HDFC
Time 5:00 p.m.
Description This class will discuss using our HD editing software to create programming and enhance studio projects. A thorough step by step instruction on the Adobe Premier’s features and functions to aid the beginner to novice producer. Basic editing techniques and helpful hints will be discussed.
